12-3 Initial idea for my final project--

For the dice that I rolled to get something for my final project, the words that I got were: Body, Graphic/Fashion Design, and Stop Motion Animation.

I'm thinking of doing a 3D of some sort with a type of fashion whether it be an earring, a small bag, a necklace, or something easy like a neck collar necklace or an arm sleved 3D piece, then I could make a 3D animation of me trying on different outfits with it in a Stop motion animation I'm thinking that that could be fun :)

then the stop motion could be about different profiles that I take with it or poses that I do with it.

12-2 Research an artist that uses physical computing in their practice.

Tim Hawkinson was born n 1960 in San Fransisco California. His art features creations of meditations on nature, machines, mortality, the body and human consciousness. He loves to use store-bought materials, handcrafted objects, and machines to shift familiar subject matter off-kilter, creating a visual conundrums of deeper meaning. His works ranges in huge sizes to microscopic pieces created from nail clippings or eggshells.
During his exhibition called "Counterclockwise" shown at the Pace gallery, Tim uses kinetic sculptures that result to playful wit and mechanically complex. he loves giving life to working parts . In his "Like World Clock", he uses elements found in medicine cabinets to indicate time and day in different world cities. "In Ranting Mop Head", the motor pushes air against a reed set onto an upturned mop to stimulate the whine of an almost human voice.

12-1 Pop up card

For my pop-up card, I made a love letter to my boyfriend Steven.
The process was a fun one in class, I had fun figuring out how to make the lights turn on, and how to connect the LED tape, in order for them to receive the message from the battery source. I went through some frustrations in class when I noticed that that the light sources was not strong enough to be lit, but then when Richard my teacher came up to me in class to test out the light source of the light, and I saw that the LED lights were lighting up just a tiny bit, we realized together that it was the battery source that was not strong enough. Hannah, one of my classmates came up to me and was kind enough to let me borrow her extra flat round battery and "Voila" there was a light source. Then I unfortunatly covered up my circuit process, with was is now come to be a love letter with the hearts shining with the light source under them. i decorated my card with hearts that I cut out with pink construction paper, and then covered around it with a dark brown construction paper so that the pink construction paper can be illuminated even more, then I added my cover page and spine for the book, and the backing of the card with red construction paper. I was really proud of myself for taping the circuits together and how i decided to decorate the card. I then wrote a very very sweet love letter to Steve, my boyfriend showing my love for being there for me through this hardous process of not only being in a rough city like New York, but to also be in graduate school wher teachers are assessing your work all the time, and you are constantly following deadlines.

11-5 Student teachers guest speakers

I really appreciated the three student teachers that came to have a talk with us last two weeks. They informed us about how many laptops that students will have if they attend private school and how low the supplies might be when they attend a public school. They were great at "implying" how hard it might be to work with a cooperating teacher but they  were hesitant to share their negative or positive (if any) experiences with a cooperating teacher. They informed us on learning about how to use the Smartboard, which you do not teach us how to utilize in class so i am very worried about it, and they showed us a little bit about how classroom management looked in all three different schools. I feel that it might be harder to teach public school kids some new media, because there are about 30-34 students in a public school classroom, and the low supply from the school board of machines and computers. I loved how one teacher talked about the students using I stop animation or Imotion, but she didnt really tell us how the lesson plan mightve looked like, or what exactly they did. I wish I remembered the student's age and what the lesson was about. I love how they shared how some lesson plans for the first day of school with adolescents and how that might've looked like.
All in all it was educational!

11-4 Lesson plan based on one of the 4 digital materials





Lesson Plan: 3D printing

Target Audience: High School students
Tinkercad/ 3D Makerbot

This activity is to teach students about different shapes to make in Adobe Illustrator, and how to implement each shape into Tinkercad, unless classmates just want to go straight to Tinkercad. Even if classmates want to start with Tinkercad rather than Adobe Illustrator, they will still be introduced to all the tools that Illustrator has to offer. Students will start the 3D printing process once they finish designing their shapes on Tinkercad and Illustrator. Students are to create a complex shaped design that represents their soul, that will then be reproduced as a necklace chain.
Materials:
Makerbot
Adobe Illustrator
Sketch pad & pencil
Tinkercad

Overview: 
Students will describe what represent a complex abstract shape of their lives/soul
Example: I chose the Arab shapes for my necklace because I had a great time in Dubai

Using their sketch design of their shape, then reproducing it on Illustrator and Tinkercad, then they will make their 3D prints.

This will take around 6 class sessions to do this.

1 class for their pitch and sketch
2 classes for their Adobe Illustrator explorations
2 classes to finalize in Tinkercad

1 class to 3D print.

11-3 Finish your Empty Assignment

For my Empty assignment, I explained that I wanted to use Arab Designs in my work in one form or another. I also said that I wanted to explore it with the laser cutter in the Maker space, but instead, since I was so passionate about 3D printing and exploring it, I decided to use my 3D print also for my  "Empty assignment". I am very proficient in Illustrator and it took me hours to complete shape by shape my model on Tinkercad of what my print would later look like.


So above, as you can see from my blog post # 10-4, I said that I wanted to explore with these complicated designs and I did exactly just that when I used the design on the left as a reference for modeling on Tinkercad. This is what came from my model:

I just felt that I was more passionate about the process od 3D printing rather than the laser cutter. The laser cutter uses the same technique where I have use Illustrator, but I have fun looking at a 3D model online for once on Tinkercad, I see that I enjoy with working with 3D more rather than with a 2 D image. 


11-2 3D printing artist that uses 3D creatively- Joshua Harker

Joshua Harker is an American artist who is known for being a pioneer and visionary in 3D printed art and sculptures born in 1970. His series called "Tangle" set an organic and composition complexity with traditional mediums. The pieces break the design and manufacture the threshold with their technical models of twists and turns. He got inspired by his 2D linear automatism explorations pioneered by some famous artists Joan Miro and Salvador Dali. He wanted "to give form to architecture of the imagination. By disengaging the conscious mind I am able to examine esoteric visions before they submit to a recognizable metaphor." His 3D printed series "Tangled" has been considered a landmark even in history of sculpture and the 3D printed medium made him the most recognized artist in the field. They are currently realized in cast bronze &3D printed polyamide
